Both teams arrive off five straight series wins at this event. FUT ended FURIA's unbeaten run in the semifinal, 2-1, in a Dust2 overtime decider. Spirit swept past Legacy, 2-0. Neither has lost a series since the group stage.

Two Perfect Runs, From Opposite Sides of the Bracket
Spirit are the only finalist to come out of what CS2owl already flagged as the tournament's stacked half, a group that also held Falcons, Vitality, NAVI and FaZe. Their own path there wasn't clean — an opening loss to JiJieHao, then four straight wins over Luminosity, BIG, B8 in the Round of 16 and Vitality in the quarterfinal, a win that ended a six-match losing streak against that opponent stretching back to October 2024.
FUT's side of the bracket was considered the lighter of the two, but their own run had its share of scares. A 2-1 win over magic in the Round of 16 came after IGL Krabeni admitted the team lost control of their emotions giving up ten clutches in a single stretch, before recovering to close it out. A 2-0 sweep of MOUZ in the quarterfinal followed, then the overtime win over FURIA.
No History, But Neither Side Is Coming In Empty-Handed
Both teams already won a Tier 1 title earlier in 2026 — FUT at PGL Bucharest in April, Spirit at PGL Astana in May, a result that ended a nine-month title drought for the roster. Neither is arriving at a grand final as a team with nothing to point to.
FUT's dziugss addressed exactly that question after the FURIA win, saying he'd rather face Spirit than Legacy in the final: "It would mean a lot to us. A lot of people were saying that it was a Mickey Mouse tournament because it didn't have the top teams." Beating the #2-ranked team in the world would settle that argument in a way beating Legacy wouldn't have.
One Player Playing a Different Game
Spirit's donk has posted a 1.55-1.62 rating across the playoffs, well clear of his own teammates' roughly 1.00 averages — a 44-kill, 1.62-rating semifinal against Legacy was the latest example. FUT's scoring has looked more evenly spread by comparison: cmtry and dem0n both posted over 1.10 ratings and multi-round clutches in the FURIA semifinal alone. Whether Spirit's final depends on one player carrying that same weight, or FUT's balance holds up against a higher-rated opponent, is one of the more concrete questions this final actually poses.
A First Trophy for Either Side
Neither FUT nor Spirit has ever won an Esports World Cup CS2 title — NAVI took it in 2024, The MongolZ in 2025. Whoever wins on August 23 takes $600,000 and a first EWC trophy for their organization; the runner-up still walks away with $340,000. For FUT, it would be a second Tier 1 title in a single year. For Spirit, the same.
