The History of SSG 08 Skins
The SSG 08 is the game's bolt-action "scout" rifle, prized for its mobility and one-shot headshot potential at any range. There are 43 SSG 08 skins on the site, spanning 6 rarity tiers from Covert down to Consumer.
From Arms Deal to today
Weapon skins were introduced to Counter-Strike with CS:GO's Arms Deal update in August 2013, which brought Cases, the Steam Community Market, and the first tradable weapon finishes to the game. The earliest SSG 08 finish with a confirmed release date tracked on CS2Owl is SSG 08 | Lichen Dashed from Aztec, released on August 14, 2013. Since then, the SSG 08 skin lineup has grown to 43 skins, with 17 available in StatTrak™ versions and all 43 currently available as Souvenir editions.
Simple finishes to complex designs
Early finishes were plain, single-pattern designs. Later Cases introduced layered, custom-illustrated artwork and textured finishes, expanding what a weapon skin could look like well beyond a solid color or simple camo.
When Valve relaunched the game as Counter-Strike 2 on September 27, 2023, every existing SSG 08 finish carried over unchanged onto the new engine, and new finishes have kept releasing through CS2's own Cases and Collections since.
