Natus Vincere vs. paiN at BLAST Open Porto 2026:A Tournament paiN Almost Missed
NAVI face paiN in Group A's lower bracket — paiN only here because BetBoom withdrew over visa issues, NAVI still searching for a signature result after a run of narrow losses.

Natus Vincere and paiN meet in Group A's lower bracket at BLAST Open Porto 2026 on August 28 — both teams coming off Opening Round losses, NAVI 1-2 to M80, paiN 0-2 to FURIA. As with the last two Lower Round 1 matchups in this group, there's no head-to-head history between these two teams to lean on. What's more interesting is how differently the two of them ended up in this bracket in the first place.

A Tournament paiN Weren't Originally In
paiN weren't directly invited to BLAST Open Porto. They were the highest-seeded runner-up out of the closed qualifier, and only got the call-up when BetBoom withdrew over visa issues — travel problems that had already hit BetBoom's roster earlier this year. Every match paiN play here, including this one, is a match they wouldn't have had if another team's paperwork had gone through.
NAVI's Run of Close Calls
NAVI's last few months haven't been a collapse so much as a string of near-misses: 1-2 to M80, 0-2 to Legacy, 1-2 to G2, 1-2 to Falcons, 0-2 to Spirit. Still ranked #8 in the world, still largely the same roster that won HLTV's Team of the Year honors, but without a signature result to point to recently. Coach B1ad3 has said the team came close to making off-season changes before deciding to keep the lineup intact for this season — a bet that this exact group of players can still turn a stretch like this one around, starting with a match they can't afford to lose.
What's on the Line
Same rules as the rest of Group A's Lower Round 1: win, and you get a second life in Lower Round 2 against an Upper Semis loser. Lose, and the tournament is over. For paiN, a team that almost wasn't here at all, that's not a bad trade. For NAVI, a team that's used to playing much later into events than this, it would extend a stretch they'd rather put behind them.
