FURIA and Legacy meet again on August 23 — not for a spot in the Esports World Cup 2026 grand final, but for third place. Both teams lost their semifinal a day earlier, and both losses ended runs good enough that neither side is walking away from this event with nothing to show for it.
FURIA had been the only team left in the 32-team field without a single series loss going into the semifinal. FUT ended that, 2-1. Legacy, the #12-ranked team in the world, had already beaten NAVI and reigning Major champions Falcons to get there. Spirit beat them 2-0. Both are two Brazilian rosters who came one win short of the final, now playing each other instead.

Two Runs That Ended One Step From the Final
FURIA's semifinal against FUT went the full distance and then some: Ancient, Nuke, and a Dust2 decider that needed overtime to settle, 16-13. FUT's cmtry was named Player of the Match with a 1.16 rating, and the win sent FUT to their first-ever Big Event grand final.
Legacy's semifinal against Spirit was more clear-cut — a 2-0 loss, 13-7 on Dust2 and 13-9 on Ancient, with donk named Player of the Match on a 1.62 rating. Legacy's try put up the most resistance on their side with a 1.19 rating, but it wasn't enough to take a map.
A Series Still Split Down the Middle
FURIA and Legacy have met twice before, both times in 2025, and it's even: FURIA won 2-1 at BLAST Open London, Legacy won 2-0 at ESL Pro League Season 22 two months later. Across both series, Legacy actually hold the map lead, 3-2. Neither team has faced the other since — there's no meeting between them anywhere in 2026 before this one.
Legacy's roster has changed once since that history was written: try replaced saadzin in a July trade with Imperial, reuniting him with dumau and latto, his former 00NATION teammates from the 2022 Rio Major. FURIA's lineup is unchanged from both previous meetings.
A Smaller Prize Jump, a Different Kind of Stakes
Third place pays $190,000, fourth pays $110,000 — an $80,000 gap, far smaller than the $230,000 that separated the two semifinal losers from a finalist's payout the day before. What's left instead is a match between two teams from the same country, with Legacy coach Alan "adrrr" Riveros already framing it that way after the Spirit loss, calling it a "showdown for the Brazilian fans" worth "points, money, morale."
A Clock Still Running for FURIA
Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo announced in April that he'll retire before the year is out, and every FURIA match left in 2026 is one fewer before that happens. YEKINDAR and molodoy have both been floated as possible successors, and YEKINDAR has already taken over in-game leading duties on certain maps — none of it has cost FURIA a result yet, but the bronze match is one more data point on how this exact lineup holds up as that transition gets closer.
