What Happened in Cologne

FURIA swept Aurora 2-0 in the IEM Cologne Major semi-final — 13-9 on Dust2, 13-4 on Nuke — to reach their first Major grand final, where they were swept in turn by Falcons. For Aurora, it ended a run that had carried them to 3rd-4th place at the tournament.

That result is the most recent, highest-stakes data point either team has on the other — and it isn't close to ancient history.

Not Quite the Same Aurora

The Aurora that lost to FURIA in Cologne fielded woxic, Wicadia, MAJ3R, XANTARES and soulfly. MAJ3R and soulfly are gone. In their place: Jimpphat, signed from MOUZ, and kyxsan — who took over as in-game leader after leaving Falcons' bench — both arriving in a rebuild put together in a matter of days ahead of this tournament.

That leaves three players — woxic, Wicadia and XANTARES — who were on the server for the Cologne loss, now playing under a different system with a new IGL. Whatever familiarity Aurora has with FURIA is real, but it comes filtered through a roster that isn't quite the one that earned it.

Two Different Roads Back Here

FURIA's group stage was straightforward — a 13-10 win over Wildcard, then a 2-1 win over 9z (Dust2 13-6, a dropped map on Mirage, Nuke 13-6) — for a clean run into the playoffs. Aurora's was bumpier: an opening loss to BIG, then wins over M80 in an elimination match and JiJieHao to book their spot.

A Familiar Opponent, A Different Team

FURIA know what beating this organization at a Major looks like. What they don't fully know yet is how kyxsan and Jimpphat change the equation, or whether Aurora's three Cologne survivors can turn that recent history into something more useful than a memory.
