Inner Circle vs MOUZ — BLAST Open Porto 2026, Group B Upper Semis, August 29

Inner Circle and MOUZ meet in Group B's upper-bracket semifinal at BLAST Open Porto 2026 on August 29, with a direct spot in the playoff semifinals on the line. The two teams have never played each other — there's no head-to-head record to point to at all. What there is, instead, is a real difference in how each side arrived at this match.

MOUZ come off a clean 2-0 opener over 9z. Inner Circle come off eliminating a meziiless Vitality from the upper bracket — the biggest result of a qualification run that's taken a lot longer than most.

The Longest Road in the Field

Inner Circle didn't arrive at BLAST Open Porto through an invite. They qualified through BLAST's Rising Europe circuit, a path that ran through wins over Virtus.pro, Acend (in a deciding fifth map), GenOne, NIO and ASTRAL among others — more matches than almost anyone else left in the 16-team field had to play to get here. That grind is the actual backdrop to their Group B opener, not just the scoreline.

Beating Vitality — even a Vitality missing mezii, with jL standing in — is still a Ukrainian team ranked #34 beating one ranked #4. Viktor "onic" Babii didn't pretend otherwise afterward: "Of course everybody knows they're better than us, and it's normal, but today we were just mentally much, much stronger. I'm just proud of my guys."

A Respectable Way to Lose

MOUZ's form coming in looks mixed on paper — recent losses to Vitality, FURIA and a split series with FUT — but the headline result is a 1-3 defeat to Spirit in the Esports World Cup 2026 semi-final. Spirit went on to win the entire tournament without dropping another series. Losing to the team that ends up winning everything isn't the same kind of result as losing to anyone else, and MOUZ's clean opening win over 9z suggests that stretch hasn't knocked them off course.

What's on the Line

The winner advances directly to Group B's upper final on August 31 and a guaranteed spot in the playoff semifinals. The loser drops into the lower bracket on August 30 and has to win out from there just to reach the playoffs at all. For Inner Circle, beating a second top-10 side in a row would turn their Vitality win from a highlight into a real pattern; for MOUZ, it's the first chance since the EWC semi-final to beat a team many expect them to.
