FaZe vs. Vitality at EWC 2026:The Rebuild's Biggest Test Yet
Four months after karrigan's departure set off a full rebuild, FaZe's new-look roster faces its toughest opponent yet. Waiting for them in the Round of 16 is a Vitality side of its own, trying to shake off its roughest stretch in over a year.

FaZe and Vitality meet in the Round of 16 at the Esports World Cup 2026 on August 20. The best-of-three pits a FaZe roster that's barely four months old against a Vitality lineup that spent the first half of the year among the best teams in the world — and hasn't quite looked like it since May.
Both sides had to work for their spot here. FaZe opened EWC with a tight 13-11 win over BetBoom before sweeping Legacy 2-0 to advance directly to the playoffs. Vitality's path was rockier: an upset loss to B8 sent them into the lower bracket, where they answered with a one-sided 2-0 sweep of Lynn Vision to survive.

A Roster Built Since April
FaZe's current five didn't exist four months ago. karrigan's departure for Falcons in April ended a five-year spell and forced a full reset — Twistzz stepped into the in-game leader role, and Ryan "Neityu" Aubry joined on loan from ENCE as an immediate replacement.
The rebuild kept moving through the summer. broky, FaZe's AWPer for nearly seven years, was benched in June in favor of JBOEN, a 20-year-old brought in on loan from BIG Academy. Neityu's own loan spell ended on August 11, when FaZe made the signing permanent — just over a week before this match. His first game as a full member of the team came in FaZe's EWC opener against BetBoom.
In other words: this exact FaZe five has existed for barely a week, and Vitality is the first team of its caliber it has had to face.
Twistzz's Second Try at Calling
This isn't the first time Twistzz has taken on in-game leader duties. He called for Liquid after cadiaN was benched in 2024, and by his own admission the results there were forgettable. Now he's doing it again — this time building a system around himself and three teammates who joined the roster after he did, rather than stepping into someone else's.
Asked about his future in the role, Twistzz didn't sound like someone treating it as temporary: "I think that'll be the case until FaZe says otherwise. Until then, I will give everything I have to the team, and also become the best leader that I can be."
Neityu and JBOEN Have Already Made Their Case
Neither of FaZe's newest players arrived as a finished product, but both have results to point to. Across his loan spell, Neityu helped FaZe reach the semi-finals at four of five events — BLAST Rivals Season 1, Stake Ranked Episode 2, BLAST Bounty Season 2, and XSE Pro League Guangzhou.
JBOEN's case is more recent. In FaZe's 2-1 win over The MongolZ at BLAST Bounty Season 2, he posted a 1.16 rating and topped his team's scoreboard, including two decisive man-down rounds on Ancient that put FaZe in control.
Beating BetBoom and Legacy at EWC is one thing. Vitality, ranked fourth in the world, is a different kind of test.
Vitality Looking to Reset
Vitality arrive at this match without the aura they carried for most of the year. Falcons eliminated them in the IEM Cologne Major quarter-final, and BLAST Bounty Season 2 ended in the very first round with a loss to Liquid — three straight events, counting IEM Atlanta, in which the roster has looked far more mortal than its reputation suggests.
The wobble continued into EWC itself, where B8 upset them in the upper bracket. But the response was emphatic: a 2-0 sweep of Lynn Vision that conceded just seven rounds across two maps, 13-2 on Dust2 and 13-5 on Inferno, with ZywOo and mezii both singled out for standout individual performances.
Which version of Vitality shows up against FaZe — the one that dropped three events in a row, or the one that just ran through Lynn Vision — is very much part of what makes this match worth watching.
What's Actually Being Tested
On paper, Vitality remain the more experienced side — HLTV ranks them fourth in the world to FaZe's seventh, and three of their five players have shared a roster for over a year. The two teams' only previous meeting this year, a 2-0 Vitality win at IEM Atlanta in May, came before karrigan's departure reshaped FaZe entirely, which leaves it with little to say about tonight.
What this match actually tests is different for each side. For Vitality, it's whether their Lynn Vision performance was a genuine reset or a one-off against weaker opposition. For FaZe, it's whether a five that has existed for barely a week can hold up against a team built to punish exactly the kind of inexperience it's still carrying.
